Will a bank holiday affect my direct deposit?

Check the Federal Reserve's listed holidays, then confirm your payer's actual schedule. A closed day can change processing, but it does not prove your payment is late.

Check any date from 2026 through 2030, then scan the annual holiday table.

For a Saturday holiday, Federal Reserve Banks stay open the preceding Friday. A Sunday holiday is observed Monday. Bank branches and payroll policies may differ.

How a holiday can change timing

Standard ACH settlement depends on the banking calendar. A payroll sender may submit earlier, set a different effective date, or pay on the next open day according to its own policy. Ask your employer or benefit payer which rule applies.

Some banks offer early availability when they receive payment information, but that is not a guaranteed date or time. Use the scheduled payday given by the payer when deciding when to follow up.

What to check next

  1. Find the scheduled payday on a pay stub, payroll portal, or official benefit calendar.
  2. Ask the sender how it handles that specific holiday and whether the file was sent.
  3. If the scheduled date has passed and the sender confirms transmission, request the effective date and ACH trace number; contact your bank securely.

Open the direct-deposit self-check for a step tailored to the date and payer status you know.
